Quick & easy Bunting tutorial

I have a big birthday celebration coming up and I want to decorate the church hall for my party so I am making lots and lots of bunting. I have done a bunting tutorial before but somebody told me about this quick and easy way of using charm packs for making it so I thought I would give it a go and pass it on.

bunting 018I used the Moda Comma Charm pack

bunting 007Fold the top into the body of the fabric;

bunting 008Then attach folded over bias binding to the top;

bunting 009Make lots of bunting flags and attach them to the bias binding in one go so that you have a long string of bunting, I used half the charm pack for this 4.5m string.

Winters Lane

We  have just returned from a fantastic holiday in Seville, such a beautiful city, we had a very relaxing time in the gorgeous sunshine seeing all the wonderful gardens and architecture. On our return we found a parcel of fantastic new fabric, its Winters Lane from Moda fabric’s and it is lovely. I am brimming with idea’s for Christmas makes, there is an inspiring panel for a cushion, bunting and gift tags, but I am also thinking aprons, placemats and table runners, even a cute A-Line Christmas skirt!

Yesterday my sister came to see me and when she saw the panel she decided to make a cushion and bunting straight away, she trimmed the cushion with some pom pom and used the lovely feather fabric for the back, it’s a good size cushion 50 x 50.

winters lane 022She used a small piece of fabric and some of my vintage buttons for the fastenings

winters lane 001For the bunting she used red bias binding folded in half over the top of the pieces

winters lane 018You could also use these piece’s to make fabric covered christmas cards

winters lane 011It’s probably a bit early to be raving about Christmas makes but this fabric range is just lovely. We have a free instruction leaflet for the cushion and bunting panel for the first 20 customers.

winters lane 014Doesn’t my garden look lovely as a back drop, thats because it is glorious summer at the moment, perfect for Christmas photography!

winters lane 010I think this fabric range is going to feature heavily in my Christmas makes series this year, watch this space for my 12 makes of Christmas, tutorial’s and gift idea’s starting in October.

Easter bunting

Here’s a quick Easter make, inspired by a recent post by pillowsalamode about making bunting, I decided to use some of the Easter Ribbon available at TrixieLixie and 2 fat quarters of fabric from the Moda Coquette range to make some Easter bunting.

dressmaking fabric, coquette, ModaI have done a bunting tutorial before, it was one of my Christmas Monday makes so I used the same template to cut out my flag shapes

sewing patterns I cut out enough triangles to make 12 flags for my bunting (12 of each)

With right sides together sew up both sides of each flag then trim any excess and turn the right way aound, I used a knitting needle to push the point of the flag out.

sewing fabricI then turned the top of the flag in by 0.5cm to neaten the tops and attached them to the back of the Easter ribbon.

Christmas Bunting

Hello, It’s Monday again, already! For this weeks #mondaymakes I have made some festive bunting. I have used fabric from the Moda Oh Deer! range available from Trixie Lixie

First of all I made a triangle template and cut out my flag shapes, I used 6 different colours, Spots and Little Deer

I used my new pair of Fiskars pinking shears to cut out the triangles so that they won’t fray. Up until now I have been using an ancient pair of pinking shears that belonged to my Grandmother. These new Fiskar ones are so sharp! My old ones, although they are lovely to look at are hopeless to cut with!

Next place right sides together and sew up the sides leaving the top open.

Do this to all the triangles and then turn them the right way around, trim the tip to get a nice point, I used a large knitting needle to push the point of the triangle out.

Iron all the triangles, then pin onto some bias binding to hang them from, I used some gorgeous red spotty bias binding from Trixie Lixie

Fold the bias binding in half to give a neat edge, I used a piece of bunting to measure the space between each flag and I made 12 flags, alternating colours and designs.

I am going to use this bunting to decorate my stall at a charity clothes swap event that I am doing in Cardiff next weekend. Check out my Facebook page to find out more about this event. trixielixiesays
