Me made May catch up

It’s almost May and another Me-Made-May is fast approaching so I thought I would re-post my first ever Me-Made-May! I always have so much fun doing it and can’t wait for this May so that I can do it all again, any suggestions for my theme this year? Last year it was Where am I, there wasn’t much of a theme to the first one, it just evolved!

Me-Made-May 2014

MeMadeMay 2014 day 18Although it says day 19 on this image it was in fact only day 18, I got a bit confused! Being on a pirate ship probably didn’t help! I am wearing a Colette Ceylon Dress that I made a few years ago, #mmm2014 has really encouraged me to wear a lot of outfits that have been sitting in the back of my wardrobe!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 19So this is actually day 19 and I look as if I am having a great time on the waltzers but actually fair ground rides absolutely terrify me! I am wearing a Simple Sew A-line skirt which is exactly that – a very simple sew and the pattern for £7.50 is also a very good price, the fabric is from the Moda Honky Tonk range which I love! My Blouse is the Sewaholic Belcarra that I have mentioned in previous posts.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 20Party on! My gorgeous Mortmain dress that I am loving at the moment, I make dresses all the time and then hardly wear them so it’s great to get the opportunity to show them off at the moment and I must continue to wear them when #mmm2014 finishes!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 21On day 21 I did actually go and see Joe Brown in concert, he was GREAT and those of you who know me will realise that I am actually playing that ukulele (although not actually with Joe!) as it is something I like to do when I am not sewing! This By Hand London Anna dress has got to be my favourite make of the month, I love it!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 22This has got to be one of my favorite photo’s of the month, I didn’ know what animal it was going to be Mr LLM just said today you are going to the zoo! The dress is a self drafted jersy knit using some of the funky jersey fabric we have in stock at the moment and the leggings are Cake Espresso’s.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 23I am really enjoying sewing with knit fabrics at the moment, I treated myself to a copy of the new Colette book ‘Sewing with knits’ and it has given me the confidence to try lots of knit patterns, including this Colette Moneta dress, if you have got a serger you can make this really quickly! More lush jersey fabric!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 24It was a gorgeous day today so I am wearing shorts, these are just a pair of cut-off jeans but I really want to make some Thurlow shorts for the summer, and the top is my stripey Sewaholic Renfrew, another quick and easy jersey make.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 25pgWe went away for the week end so I appear to be camping in a tiny tent here, but actually we stayed in a caravan, it was pretty cold in the evenings though so I was really gratefull for my Sewaholic Tofino trousers and hand knitted Rowan wool bobble hat and jumper!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 26I feel like Alice in Wonderland in this shot! Rocking my A-Line skirt as mentioned earlier and yet another jersey top, this time a Cake Cabrita.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 27On day 27 I was serving pints for Manet, enormous pints! I love this gingham Belcarra blouse!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 28Somehow I ended up in the fridge today! Its a good job that I have got a hand knitted hat on to keep my head warm! I am also wearing my Black Sewaholic Thurlow trousers and a Colette Jasmine blouse, this is one of the blouse’s that is available to buy as a kit from the website.

Well thats me all up to date, only a few more days to go, it’s been great fun!

Wren!

The new Colette sewing pattern is here! Wren is gorgeous! Its easy to make and extremely flattering.

I made myself version two from some of our lovely striped jersey that has a lovely silky feel to it and hangs beautifully.

I think the Wren pattern is fun to wear and also quick and easy to make, I can see myself making more of these, particularly as we have just bought in a few Liberty Jersey fabrics!

Aster Shirt dress hack

I made this dress a few weeks ago but I have been so busy that I haven’t had chance to blog about it! The Aster shirt pattern from Colette is a really easy make and I fancied a shirt dress so I decided to hack this pattern, it was quite simple to do, I just extended the pattern to the length that I wanted and followed the regular instructions.

I used some of our best selling medium weight denim that drapes beautifully, it is really easy to wear and I can see myself wearing this all winter with tights and my favourite DM shoes.

Meet Aster: A Simplified Classic

Who doesn’t love the simple appeal of a button up? They are a classic for a reason, they easily transition from season to season, and they are a multi-purpose wardrobe staple. A good button-up shirt can take you from work to play.

Aster is a modern and simplified version of this iconic garment. The button-up style instantly lends a put-together quality to the blouse, while the  v-neckline is universally flattering, and eliminates the fuss of a collar. Bust darts offer soft shaping, giving Aster its flattering body skimming fit.

This highly customizable pattern is perfect for an advanced beginner or an experienced sewist looking to refine their skill set. With its semi-fitted shape, 3 mix-and-match versions, and a wide variety of fabric options, Aster can be made to wear during any season.

Dahlia Dress

My wrist is still painful and I am having to wear a splint and see a hand therapist, apparently scaphoid injuries take a long time to heal! Anyway I can sew as long as I don’t spend hours at it and rest my hand every couple of hours, which is frustrating but I think my sewing is benefiting from the slower, less rushed approach. So I started this Dahlia dress as soon as we received the patterns from Colette, but I didn’t get it finished until a week later.Colette Dahlia dressThe pattern is easy to follow, clear instructions as always and some useful blog links for the harder bits such as gathering and attaching bias binding. I used some of our gorgeous China blue Linen fabric that feels gorgeous and has a really nice drape to it. I can see myself using this pattern again and again although I think I will make a smaller size next time as the fit is quite generous.

tracy-dahliaIn the colder weather I like to accessorize with tights and boots, here is one of my #sewingselfies

#sewingselfie Dahlia dressWe sold out of this pattern straight away so I imagine there are going to be a lot of gorgeous Dahlia’s to look at in the next week or so, I can’t wait to see some!

Happy Sewing!

My Lovely Mum!

This week I made a Colette Moneta dress for my Lovely Mum, so it’s her turn to be the glamour model!

My Mum in her Colette Moneta DressI used some of our gorgeous jersey fabric which is soft and silky to the touch and drapes beautifully.

moneta-hero-smallColette Patterns are currently doing a Moneta dress sewalong so you can learn how to make this lovely easy to wear and easy to make dress.

I made myself one when the pattern first came out and it made it’s debut during Me Made May, if you missed it, here it is again:

Sew-alongs and #1ppw

This week I decided to take part in not just one sewalong, but two! I joined in with the Sewaholic Belcarra Blouse sew-along and the Colette Mabel Skirt sew-along.

1402_Sewaholic_Belcarra_Envelope_frontmabel-300I have already made a couple of Belcarra blouses and I wanted to make this one a bit different so I used some of the fabulous new lace fabric that we have in stock to make some lacey sleeves on this black cotton lawn version.

tracymabelbelcarraThe Mabel skirt I made is the longer pencil skirt version and I used light weight cotton jersey knit in glamourous red. Both patterns are really easy to make and it only took me a couple of days to put together this gorgeous outfit!

I have also signed up for the 1 project per week sewing challenge that fellow blogger bernieandi has organised so this outfit is my week 1 for that too, ticks lots of boxes!

My Me made May week 1

Well so far I have blogged up to day 5, so here is the rest of the week:

MeMadeMay day 6On Day 6 I had work so I am wearing my Thurlow’s again, this time I have teamed them up with a black jersey Belcarra blouse, I can’t stress enough how much I love the Sewaholic Belcarra blouse pattern, I have made 4 already! It’s sooooo quick and easy to make!

Me made May day 7And here it is again! Another Belcarra blouse, this one is very versatile as it is white so I can wear it with anything, although it is a bit see through so I am wearing a cami top underneath! (A Colette Cinnamon, only available as a download from their website). The skirt is a Sew Serendipity Six Panel skirt from the book called ‘Sew Serendipity’.

MeMadeMay day 8I thought it would be good to show the back of my Sewaholic Thurlow trousers, look at those fab pockets! Actually I made a mistake and put them on upside down and rather than unpick them I just cut them off and made ‘fake’ pockets!! The top is a Sewaholic Renfrew, I am really enjoying sewing with knits at the moment and this stripey jersey is gorgeous.

MeMadeMay day 9The theme for Friday was blue, so I wore one of my other Belcarra blouses, the gorgeous gingham one, with my Colette Beignet skirt, notice the lovely vintage style buttons on my skirt.

I am really enjoying Me made May, I think I need to make a few more outfits this weekend!

Sew-a-longs and sewing kits

I made a really nice outfit before Xmas using 2 of my favourite Colette patterns, they were so easy and such fun to make that we have put everything together to make a couple of kits for the website so that you can get everything you need to make them yourself.

The first thing I made was a Zinnia skirt using a gorgeous China blue linen/silk blend fabric

colette zinnia skirt kitThis skirt is really easy to make and drapes beautifully in this fabric, everything you need including the pattern, fabric and zip is available in this kit

To complete the outfit I made this lovely Jasmine Blouse

colette-jasmine-blouse-kit-1469-pThis is also available as a kit and is also a beginner sewing pattern so it is quite easy to make.

colette-jasmine-blouse-kit-[3]-1469-p

If like me you enjoy a good sew-a-long there are 2 coming up that look great, By Hand London are doing a Georgia Dress sew-a-long starting on 27th January which my daughter is going to be joining in with and also the Albion coat sew-a-long on the  Coletterie you could win a Bernina sewing machine with this one! I think I might give it a go! We have got 10% off at TrixieLixie at the moment so if you want to buy one of these patterns nows the time!
