Tote bags

April is always a busy month of birthdays for me, as I have said before, I think Tote bags make a great present. These ones have a bit more to offer than my usual book bag style, they are fully lined, with a gusset on the bottom and a very useful pocket inside.

camera-bagI love the fact that I can choose from our extensive range of fabrics at www.trixielixie.co.uk

This is the new Geekly Chic range from Riley Blake, camera’s, moustaches and sneakers feature heavily.

Cake Dress & new Jersey fabrics

We have got some fab new jersey fabrics on the website so I decided to have a go at the Cake Red Velvet dress,

cake-sewing-patterns-red-velvet-knit-dress-1421-p[ekm]197x288[ekm]it was fairly straight forward, I tried to use my serger but I am really struggling with it, I think the tensions are all wrong but I just get confused when I try and balance it and it just seems to get worse! So I used a small zig-zag stitch on my sewing machine instead.

jersey-dressThe fabric is lovely, navy blue with red birds on it, it is T-shirt weight so it drapes nicely.

red-birds-on-blue-jersey-1608-pWe have also got some fab jersey stripes, and coming soon are some gorgeous plain colours, excellent for T-shirts, dresses and skirts. I particularly like this one;

red-and-grey-stripe-jersey-1606-pI think I am going to have a go at making the Cake Cabarita top with this one.

I will let you know how I get on! Happy sewing!!

Barcelona Skirt

This is probably the easiest skirt I have ever made, it’s the Amy Butler Barcelona skirt, its a gorgeous A-line skirt, fully lined and a beautifully concealed zip.

Barcelona SkirtThe fabric I used is a Free Spirt fabric by Anna Maria Horner from her Field Study range, it is called Raindrops Pop Candy isn’t that a great name?

I used some Turquoise lining fabric and then I trimmed the bottom with some Teal velvet ribbon.

amy-butler-barcelona-skirt-sewing-pattern-1520-p[ekm]195x288[ekm]This is a very easy pattern to follow and I would recommend it for beginners.

Happy sewing!

Sew-a-longs and sewing kits

I made a really nice outfit before Xmas using 2 of my favourite Colette patterns, they were so easy and such fun to make that we have put everything together to make a couple of kits for the website so that you can get everything you need to make them yourself.

The first thing I made was a Zinnia skirt using a gorgeous China blue linen/silk blend fabric

colette zinnia skirt kitThis skirt is really easy to make and drapes beautifully in this fabric, everything you need including the pattern, fabric and zip is available in this kit

To complete the outfit I made this lovely Jasmine Blouse

colette-jasmine-blouse-kit-1469-pThis is also available as a kit and is also a beginner sewing pattern so it is quite easy to make.

Amy’s Prom

I have been a bit quiet on the blogging front lately, this is because I have been busy making a very important dress for my daughter. It is a Colette Laurel

Amy Prom

It’s an easy dress to make and the instructions are really clear and easy to follow. The fabric on the other hand was a bit tricky, a lovely coral crepe/georgette fabric, it was so slippery to use, I had to redo the sleeves a couple of times as they were different lengths! I didn’t read about spraying the fabric with a starch spray until it was too late. I will definitely do that next time I use this type of Fabric.

Amy's Prom June 2013 005 (3)I love the way she has accessorised and her shoes are fab! She also did a great job of her nails

Amy's Prom June 2013 2354She met up with some of her friends for a pre-prom drink, they all look gorgeous

Amy Prom3I had to have a picture of the two of us, even though she makes me look a bit short!
