I have been using a lot of bias binding in my sewing lately, this pretty ready made floral one on my daughters Laurel dress
we have just added stock of Clover bias binding makers to TrixieLixie so I thought I would have a go at making some, there is an excellent tutorial here on the Colette blog. For my June give-away you could win one of these bias binding makers, for a chance to win, leave me a comment, for a further chance to win sign up for the TrixieLixie newsletter here
so I made some for this black pinafore dress that my daughter decided she needed
every edge has bias binding around it including the button fastenings at the sides
I have finally drawn a winner for the leafy stripe fat quarter bundle that I featured a few weeks ago, Becca Kettle is the lucky winner, she suggested putting the fabric into embroidery hoops and hanging them on the wall, I would love to see that!
Well done Becca!
I have been sew busy!! I have been making lots of pairs of knickers, these are samples for the new kits that will be added to the website in the next few days
The fabric and knicker elastic is already available to buy and so is the sewing pattern
I have also recently finished making the Colette Laurel dress for my daughter
It is a lovely simple dress to make, it introduced me to some new techniques that I will use again and again such as bias binding for the sleeves and neckline and underlining, so simple and such a professional looking finish! The instruction booklet is excellent and the downloadable extra’s are great too!
I used a contrasting flower print bias binding which looks so lovely!
We went to a wedding last week so my beautiful daughter wore her Laurel and I wore my Elisalex
I have also been doing a lot of sewing with jersey fabric, I have made shorts, skirts, yoga pants and also this empire style dress
This fabric is gorgeous it’s so soft and drapes beautifully
The Zebra print jersey fabric is soft and drapey too this skirt was really easy to make, I will try do a tutorial in another blog post.
The shorts are ‘short shorts’ so my lovely long legged daughter is now the proud owner of those!
I have so many other projects on the go! I will announce the winner of the fabric giveaway at the end of the month so there is still time to leave me a comment if you would like to win

Well Christmas is almost here and I wanted a nice easy Monday make as I have lots of other handmade Christmas presents on the go, Chilli jam, pyjama’s, more knickers etc. So there is no sewing involved with today’s make, only sticking. All the fabric is available at Trixie Lixie it’s from the Oh Deer! range by Moda. And the trimming is from our Bias binding selection.
You will also need some double sided sticky tape.
First of all I drew around the book and then added a 3cm border before cutting out the fabric.
Next I put double sided sticky tape around the outside edge’s of the notebook
With the notebook closed stick the fabric to the front of the book, at each side of the spine, top and bottom, snip the fabric then stick the fabric to the back of the book
Open the book and put double sided sticky tape on the inside cover, mitre the edges by cutting the corner’s off then fold fabric inside the book and secure.
Do the same to the back and then snip off the excess fabric at the top and bottom of the spine. I decorated mine by adding a strip of bias binding using the double sided tape, I also added a little envelope to the front of the small one for keeping things in.
This week I am going to be doing a give-away, all you have to do to win one of these notebooks is leave me a comment, and then follow this link to Trixie Lixie and sign up for our monthly newsletter (we promise not to bombard you with emails). The winner will be chosen by random on 22nd December.
