Just sewing away obsessively…….

I love sharing my latest makes, but I am a bit of a sewing obsessive, as soon as I finish something I start something new! I am constantly thinking about what I am going to make next! So let me show you what I have been making …………

These are the Sew me something Portia trousers, the fabric is a super soft cotton/linen blend that drapes beautifully. I struggled a bit with the zip on these only to realise that I hadn’t cut out enough facings! Great views of Barrybados in the background! I am also wearing my me made Colette Anise jacket and a huge piece of Liberty silk as a scarf!!

Another recent make is my Deer and Doe Myosotis dress, very comfortable, a great dress for big lunches! I would probably go down a size if I make it again as it is very generous. The fabric is a lush cotton lawn by Lady McElroy available here

I have recently finished a couple of Tilly & the Buttons Cleo pinafores, this one is mine. I made it slightly longer and put the split at the back. I regretted not inserting pockets, although I have been persuaded that front patch pockets will work so watch this space. The denim has a slight stretch so it is really comfortable. I also made a Cleo for my sister, I will try & get a photo of us together in them!

I am also doing a bit of mending after obsessively looking at Japanese mending techniques on Pinterest 😂 does anyone else hate throwing things away! I just love this Sashiko technique!

Anyway, I have got lots of sewing to be getting on with (Tamarack jacket) so I’m off to get on with it!

Me made May catch up

It’s almost May and another Me-Made-May is fast approaching so I thought I would re-post my first ever Me-Made-May! I always have so much fun doing it and can’t wait for this May so that I can do it all again, any suggestions for my theme this year? Last year it was Where am I, there wasn’t much of a theme to the first one, it just evolved!

Me-Made-May 2014

MeMadeMay 2014 day 18Although it says day 19 on this image it was in fact only day 18, I got a bit confused! Being on a pirate ship probably didn’t help! I am wearing a Colette Ceylon Dress that I made a few years ago, #mmm2014 has really encouraged me to wear a lot of outfits that have been sitting in the back of my wardrobe!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 19So this is actually day 19 and I look as if I am having a great time on the waltzers but actually fair ground rides absolutely terrify me! I am wearing a Simple Sew A-line skirt which is exactly that – a very simple sew and the pattern for £7.50 is also a very good price, the fabric is from the Moda Honky Tonk range which I love! My Blouse is the Sewaholic Belcarra that I have mentioned in previous posts.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 20Party on! My gorgeous Mortmain dress that I am loving at the moment, I make dresses all the time and then hardly wear them so it’s great to get the opportunity to show them off at the moment and I must continue to wear them when #mmm2014 finishes!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 21On day 21 I did actually go and see Joe Brown in concert, he was GREAT and those of you who know me will realise that I am actually playing that ukulele (although not actually with Joe!) as it is something I like to do when I am not sewing! This By Hand London Anna dress has got to be my favourite make of the month, I love it!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 22This has got to be one of my favorite photo’s of the month, I didn’ know what animal it was going to be Mr LLM just said today you are going to the zoo! The dress is a self drafted jersy knit using some of the funky jersey fabric we have in stock at the moment and the leggings are Cake Espresso’s.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 23I am really enjoying sewing with knit fabrics at the moment, I treated myself to a copy of the new Colette book ‘Sewing with knits’ and it has given me the confidence to try lots of knit patterns, including this Colette Moneta dress, if you have got a serger you can make this really quickly! More lush jersey fabric!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 24It was a gorgeous day today so I am wearing shorts, these are just a pair of cut-off jeans but I really want to make some Thurlow shorts for the summer, and the top is my stripey Sewaholic Renfrew, another quick and easy jersey make.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 25pgWe went away for the week end so I appear to be camping in a tiny tent here, but actually we stayed in a caravan, it was pretty cold in the evenings though so I was really gratefull for my Sewaholic Tofino trousers and hand knitted Rowan wool bobble hat and jumper!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 26I feel like Alice in Wonderland in this shot! Rocking my A-Line skirt as mentioned earlier and yet another jersey top, this time a Cake Cabrita.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 27On day 27 I was serving pints for Manet, enormous pints! I love this gingham Belcarra blouse!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 28Somehow I ended up in the fridge today! Its a good job that I have got a hand knitted hat on to keep my head warm! I am also wearing my Black Sewaholic Thurlow trousers and a Colette Jasmine blouse, this is one of the blouse’s that is available to buy as a kit from the website.

Well thats me all up to date, only a few more days to go, it’s been great fun!

Pillow Frenzy

It seems that I’ve had a bit of a run on making pillowcases for my friends. I love giving them as gifts, as they are so easy to make.

With these ones I made for my sister, I’ve used Gutermann fabrics with a touch of pom pom specialness. They go brilliantly with her seaside themed front room. This Gutermann collection has lots of subtle colours which would fit well in any environment.

Guter pillows topMy friend Fran loves cowboys and loves these pillows too. They are made using the Moda Fabrics Honky-Tonk range.

Well it has been much fun! I can’t wait to do it all again next year! Any way here is the last few pictures from my Me made May exploits 2014.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 29jpgThis is a self drafted shift dress, the fabric is Michael Miller Scandi Leaves in Forest, its got gorgeous colours in it, and I have used some Deep Purple satin bias binding to finish the neck and arm holes. Thoses dummies are looking at my dress with envy!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 30Yesterday I took a trip back in time to the Wild, Wild West. Smokin’ !!

I am wearing another one of my Amy Butler Barcelona skirts, the fabric is The Birds & the Bees, Tree of life in Pool, its from the Freespirit range designed by Tula Pink. My top is another Sewaholic Renfrew in gorgeous Teal jersey cotton. Such a shame it is in black & white and you can’t see the gorgeous colours!

Me made May 2014 day 30 colourWell look at that! As if by magic you can see my outfit in the glory of colour!

Well today is the last day and we have had such fun doing all these photos! It has been quite hard thinking up a new theme every day so I am glad its not my full time career, and how do those glamour models keep smiling??

Me made May 2014 Day 31I decided to wear my favorite dress today and I am thinking I should definately make another one! Its the By Hand London Anna Dress and the gorgeous fabric is from Riley Blakes vintage Happy Range. Let me know which photo is your favorite, I love the Polar bear one and also I quite like the idea of sitting in the fridge!

Valentines makes

We have got some great fabric, charm packs, buttons and ribbons for Valentines Makes on the website. My favorite is the Surrounded by Love Fabric panel from Moda.

surrounded-by-love-moda-fabric-panel-1477-pOne panel costs £6.75, you can make all sorts of things with it. The squares will make lovely little cushions or you could frame them, or cut them up to make cards. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them! It is my niece Isobels 9th birthday tomorrow so I decided to use 2 panels and make her a quilt. It was so quick and easy to do!

surrounde by Love QulitIt’s not quite single bed size as I only used 2 panels, I quite like the cute size of it, I used a plain red fabric for the back and red bias binding for the edges, It only took just under a metre of fabric and wadding.

Surrounde by love labelI hand stitched one of the lovely labels to the back to complete the gorgeousness!

Surrounde by Love QuiltI think my niece is going to be delighted! I can’t wait to give it to her!!

Happy Sewing!

Easter bunting

Here’s a quick Easter make, inspired by a recent post by pillowsalamode about making bunting, I decided to use some of the Easter Ribbon available at TrixieLixie and 2 fat quarters of fabric from the Moda Coquette range to make some Easter bunting.

dressmaking fabric, coquette, ModaI have done a bunting tutorial before, it was one of my Christmas Monday makes so I used the same template to cut out my flag shapes

sewing patterns I cut out enough triangles to make 12 flags for my bunting (12 of each)

sewing patterns

With right sides together sew up both sides of each flag then trim any excess and turn the right way aound, I used a knitting needle to push the point of the flag out.

sewing fabricI then turned the top of the flag in by 0.5cm to neaten the tops and attached them to the back of the Easter ribbon.

sewing fabric, ribbonBunting is such a quick and easy project and it makes a great gift.

Moda Candy small basket

Today I thought I would have a go at one of the projects in the Moda Candy book that we are giving away FREE with every order over £30 at Trixie Lixie while stocks last (so grab one now!)

http://www.trixielixie.co.uk/moda-candy-oh-sew-sweet-project-book-845-p.aspI used the Odds & Ends candy pack for my version of the small basket

http://www.trixielixie.co.uk/odds--ends-836-p.aspYou need 16 squares, which you sew together into 4 strips of 4, press the seams & then join the 4 strips to make a Square. Attach a piece of fusible fabric to the back.

http://www.trixielixie.co.uk/moda-candy-96-c.aspLayer the squares and the lining fabric right sides together and sew around the edge leaving an opening so that it can be turned

http://www.trixielixie.co.uk/lime-green-leafy-stripe-fabric-606-p.aspI used Lime Green Leafy stripe from the moda range for my lining, which I made the base of my basket. Turn right way around then stitch the corner squares on the seam lines

http://www.trixielixie.co.uk/lime-green-leafy-stripe-fabric-606-p.aspFlatten the corners and top stitch all around the top edge to hold them in place.

Monday makes – Lap Quilt

Here is my first Monday make for 2013, although I actually made it before Christmas and gave it to my Mum! Anyway I haven’t had chance to blog about it until now so here it is, a very simple lap quilt made using a “Sew Mama Sew” charm pack from Moda, available from Trixie Lixie

to blog 259First of all I stitched together 5 squares to form a strip, there are 40 squares in a pack so I made 8 strips, they are pre-prepared at the edges so you don’t have to worry about finishing the sides just press the seams flat.

to blog 249Next I joined the strips together to make one large piece, matching the squares up, and then ironing the seams flat again.

sew mama sew quilt http://www.trixielixie.co.uk/charm-packs-95-c.aspThe next step is to make a sandwich using a piece of wadding cut to size and a piece of fabric for the back of the quilt, have the quilt right side up, wadding in the middle and then the backing fabric right side facing out, I used a piece of black linen for the back of my quilt so it didn’t have a right side or a wrong side.

to blog 263I used safety pins to hold it all together so that I could do the quilting, I am still learning how to quilt so I just did straight lines along all the seams so that all the squares went nice and puffy. Also I started in the middle as last time I did this I started at the edges and met in the middle and it did not work well at all! This is how it looked from the back (a little bit wobbly!) It looks a bit grey but that was just the flash on my camera.

to blog 273Here I am trying to follow the seams in a straight line!

to blog 269When all the quilting was done I used some red bias binding around the edge to neaten it all off.

to blog 274I am really pleased with the way it turned out, think I might be getting addicted to quilting, these charm packs are so easy to use, and my last attempt at quilting with a jelly roll was quite successful too so I might try one of the new Moda candy packs for my next  Monday make. They were featured in my last post and if you spend over £30 on the website you can get a free copy of the project book that I am going to use.
