Me made May week 2

Well that week flew by! Here is a round up of what I have been wearing during #mmmay14

#mmm14 day 10On day 10 I wore a Colette Mabel skirt, on the pattern she says you can make it in an hour, its true! I knocked this one up that morning! And the top I am wearing is the Cake Cabarita riff which was also surprisingly easy to make, the fabrics are Grey jersey heavy weight knit and a gorgeous Red Cotton jersey that is T-shirt weight. I am living a daydream and partying with one of my heart throbs – John Travolta!

#mmm14 day 11I celebrated Conchita’s win with her on day 11 in one of my Sewaolic Renfrew tops, I am also wearing a Brigitte Scarf from Tilly’s new book ‘Love at first stitch’, if you haven’t seen this book yet, take a look, I love and want to make EVERYTHING!

#mmm14 day 12I fell in love with this Riley Blake fabric as soon as it came in to stock and it is perfect as a By Hand London Anna dress, its from the new Vintage Happy range, and hey! I’m on a mountain, how did that happen?

#mmm14 day 13I was back into work clothes on day 13 so my trusty Sewaholic Thurlows and a Colette Violet blouse in ivory georgette, this is available to buy as a complete kit from the website. Doing a spot of light reading during my lunch break with my work mates!

#mmm14 day 14Day 14 and I parachuted back in wearing my Colette Mabel skirt and Gorgeous gingham Sewaholic Belcarra blouse.

#mmm14 day 15Day 15 brought glorious sunshine to Wales so I was happy to find myself in an icecream van today, I am wearing a Colette Jasmine Blouse which is made using a gorgeous black spotty crepe fabric, again this is available as a complete kit on the website.

#mmm14 day 16Day 15 was a spotty theme so I wore my glam By Hand Charlotte pencil skirt, I love this skirt as the fabric is stretchy so it is really comfortable, yet glamourous. Its a cotton mix fabric with a broderie anglaise style detail and red spots, lush! My top is the Cake Cabarita riff. And I am back ot top of the World again, only this time I have made it to the moon!!

#mmmay14 Day 17Well it’s Saturday so I get to lounge around in my Sewaholic Tofino trousers, its also cup final day so I have ended up in Wembley! The Tofino’s are very comfy and I have used some of the Moda Honky Tonk fabric to make these, I am also wearing another Belcarra blouse!

Well, that was week 2, I am busy sewing a couple more new outfits for week 3 so watch this space.

Charlotte Skirt – Finished!

I have finally finished my Charlotte skirt that I was doing with the By Hand sewalong I just needed to do the hem! Here it is in its full glory complete with removable peplum it is without the peplum here is the back, I made a button hole and used a vintage style button. The herringbone fabric and buttons are available at Trixie Lixie lovely blouse was made by my teenage daughter and is the Colette Violet blouse, the lovely Ivory Georgette fabric and pattern for this are also available at Trixie Lixie.

I am now looking forward to joining in with the Elisalex dress sewalong, for more info follow the link

Charlotte skirt sewalong – waistband & removable peplum

I am really enjoying the Charlotte skirt sewalong, it has made me slow down and take my time making a garment rather then rushing in to it and making loads of silly mistakes. I think this has probably got to be the best waistband I have ever fitted!

Charlotte skirtI am still to do the blind stitching but I have a long car journey tomorrow so I shall do it then (I am a passenger not the driver!)

Charlotte skirtAs I said in an earlier post, I don’t want to attach a peplum as I think I will wear this skirt a lot without one, but I would like to occasionally wear it with one so I have made a seperate peplum, all I have done is cut out another waistband and attached it to the peplum!

Charlotte peplumI will put some hooks & eyes on as fasteners and there we are, with or without peplum!

peplumWhoops, that photo is a bit blurred! I will post a better one when I have finished, next step Hemming!

Charlotte skirt sewalong – fitting the lining

I have managed to follow part 4 of the Charlotte Skirt sewalong and fitted my lining.

Charlotte skirt lining I just need to blind stitch the opening at the centre back of the lining to the zipper.

I am still working on my idea for a detachable peplum and will post some pic’s of how I have done it in the next few days.

Charlotte skirt sewalong part 2

I caught up with part 2 of the By Hand Charlotte skirt sewalong

I used the excellent instructions to take my skirt in at the hips and also the really clear zipper instructions, I think it may be the neatest zip I have fitted! are my lovely neat darts looking zipper! taken in on both sides to get the perfect fit! I have looked at the next stage which is attaching the peplum, I am not 100% certain that I will want a peplum so I am going to make a detachable one so that I can wear the skirt with or without it. I will keep you posted on this!
