Me made May catch up

It’s almost May and another Me-Made-May is fast approaching so I thought I would re-post my first ever Me-Made-May! I always have so much fun doing it and can’t wait for this May so that I can do it all again, any suggestions for my theme this year? Last year it was Where am I, there wasn’t much of a theme to the first one, it just evolved!

Me-Made-May 2014

MeMadeMay 2014 day 18Although it says day 19 on this image it was in fact only day 18, I got a bit confused! Being on a pirate ship probably didn’t help! I am wearing a Colette Ceylon Dress that I made a few years ago, #mmm2014 has really encouraged me to wear a lot of outfits that have been sitting in the back of my wardrobe!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 19So this is actually day 19 and I look as if I am having a great time on the waltzers but actually fair ground rides absolutely terrify me! I am wearing a Simple Sew A-line skirt which is exactly that – a very simple sew and the pattern for £7.50 is also a very good price, the fabric is from the Moda Honky Tonk range which I love! My Blouse is the Sewaholic Belcarra that I have mentioned in previous posts.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 20Party on! My gorgeous Mortmain dress that I am loving at the moment, I make dresses all the time and then hardly wear them so it’s great to get the opportunity to show them off at the moment and I must continue to wear them when #mmm2014 finishes!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 21On day 21 I did actually go and see Joe Brown in concert, he was GREAT and those of you who know me will realise that I am actually playing that ukulele (although not actually with Joe!) as it is something I like to do when I am not sewing! This By Hand London Anna dress has got to be my favourite make of the month, I love it!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 22This has got to be one of my favorite photo’s of the month, I didn’ know what animal it was going to be Mr LLM just said today you are going to the zoo! The dress is a self drafted jersy knit using some of the funky jersey fabric we have in stock at the moment and the leggings are Cake Espresso’s.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 23I am really enjoying sewing with knit fabrics at the moment, I treated myself to a copy of the new Colette book ‘Sewing with knits’ and it has given me the confidence to try lots of knit patterns, including this Colette Moneta dress, if you have got a serger you can make this really quickly! More lush jersey fabric!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 24It was a gorgeous day today so I am wearing shorts, these are just a pair of cut-off jeans but I really want to make some Thurlow shorts for the summer, and the top is my stripey Sewaholic Renfrew, another quick and easy jersey make.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 25pgWe went away for the week end so I appear to be camping in a tiny tent here, but actually we stayed in a caravan, it was pretty cold in the evenings though so I was really gratefull for my Sewaholic Tofino trousers and hand knitted Rowan wool bobble hat and jumper!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 26I feel like Alice in Wonderland in this shot! Rocking my A-Line skirt as mentioned earlier and yet another jersey top, this time a Cake Cabrita.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 27On day 27 I was serving pints for Manet, enormous pints! I love this gingham Belcarra blouse!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 28Somehow I ended up in the fridge today! Its a good job that I have got a hand knitted hat on to keep my head warm! I am also wearing my Black Sewaholic Thurlow trousers and a Colette Jasmine blouse, this is one of the blouse’s that is available to buy as a kit from the website.

Well thats me all up to date, only a few more days to go, it’s been great fun!

I will make a winter coat this year, I will. Honest. Well maybe….

Every year about this time, I think, ‘right then, lets make a nice warm coat’.

Then I dawdle and procrastinate, think well… maybe next week, and before I know it, it’s Spring and I can get on with making those nice fun summer dresses again.

This year, though, it’s going to be different. It’s definitely going to happen.

Firstly I have to choose who I am making this for. My husband is a good bet, he is forgiving and frankly would wear anything. I’ve got a couple of patterns to choose from, the good solid Colette Albion or the trendy Thread Theory Peacoat. We’ve got this nice soft Polyester Heavy Felt that would be up for the job. Mmmm but what about the lining…..

cp2002-albion-01-large-d676699b101ddfe4b4b60db7ebde0dac Goldstream Peacoat 1

Then again, I quite fancy a girlie version of the Albion too or maybe The Grainline Cascade Duffle Coat. We have some nice Boucle fabric, that would be good for the Colette Anise Jacket, or a Victoria Blazer or one of those nice Morris Blazers from Grainline Patterns.

Some Gabachino Fabric might be perfect for a slightly more lightweight Sewaholic Robson Coat

robson coat 2 Fall+Jordan+Silver

Mind you, I’ve always fancied a Denim version of the Serendipity Jordan Jacket, that would be great for the Spring,

There you go, I’m procrastinating again!

Sewaholic gets all sporty

I’m not that sporty. Think of me as that old cat, dozing on the windowsill, but my eyes were opened by the new Vancouver collection of sewing patterns from Sewaholic. It’s not that I don’t like pictures with that much lycra, it’s just that I’ve hardly ever seen sewing patterns that are just made for it. It almost made me jump up out of my comfy armchair [well not quite].

vancouverHang on, I’ve got a sporty daughter and several sporty nieces. I haven’t got any lycra or sports net, but I do have knit fabrics and I fancy the style of the Fraser Sweatshirt.

IMG_8106__44777.1439498270.1280.1280The loose fit of the Seymour Jacket caught my eye, that might just hide my six pack and I have some wild coloured outdoor fabrics that may very well suit the bill.

IMG_7833__17260.1439498685.1280.1280Ok I know I’m not exactly Jessica Ennis, but I might just give some of these a go.

Sewaholic Rae Skirt

As I am unable to sew at the moment I persuaded my gorgeous daughter to have a go at making the latest addition to the Sewaholic pattern range – The Rae skirt.

rae-skirt-sewaholic-sewing-pattern-[5]-1920-pThis is a very straight forward beginners elasticated waist skirt, with a small amount of help from me Amy was able to complete this very simple sew in just a couple of hours!

Amy wearing a Sewaholic Rae skirt

Doesn’t it look lovely! The nice thing about this elastic waist skirt is that it has 4 panels that are shaped so that it drapes beautifully, she deliberately chose some of our new Gaberchino fabric as it is heavier weight and holds the shape nicely.

#OWOP Barcelona skirts galore!

As I am unable to sew at the moment I was really pleased to be able to take part in this blog-along, I already have dozens of Amy Butler Barcelona skirts so I didn’t have to make anything. #OWOP stands for One Week, One Pattern and was organised by Handmade Jane

OWOP2014

One Week, One Pattern! (or OWOP) is a group challenge where participants wear garments made from just one pattern of their choice, every day for a week.

So the pattern I chose is one that I have been re-using for years and have taught lots of people to make.

amy-butler-barcelona-skirt-sewing-pattern-1520-p[ekm]195x288[ekm]The Barcelona skirt is a an A-line skirt pattern that is fully lined and really easy to make.

tracy-bob-dylanSo to start the week I was having a little stroll with Bob Dylan, this skirt was made using Freespirit Field studies fabric by Anna Marie Horner & I have trimmed it with some Velvet ribbon. The top is a Sewaholic Renfrew in Purple jersey that goes really well with my cast.

tracy-sinatra

Day 2 saw me swinging with Frank Sinatra, another Barcelona in Freespirit Field studies fabric by Anna Marie Horner, I do love her fabric designs! And another Sewaholic Renfrew this one in Turquoise jersey, (I have quite a lot of these tops, another easy make!)

tracy-fred-astaire

Day 3 and I am having a bit of a boogie with Fred Astaire! This Barcelona skirt is a few years old so the fabric is not from TrixieLixie you can just about see that it is a city map, I think its London. Again I have trimmed this one with some Velvet ribbon. And what a surprise! Another Sewaholic Renfrew this one in Turquoise stripe jersey. This Renfrew is a more recent make and is a better fit than the others as I took about an inch off each side seam.

tracy-cary-grantDay 4 and I have a funny feeling that Cary Grant is going to push me into the pool! Doesn’t he realise that I can’t get my cast wet ?!? This is another old Barcelona skirt that I made about 4 years ago! The fabric was designed by Grayson Perry for Liberty, it’s got images of all sorts of disasters like plane crashes and oil spills, it also features his teddy bear – Alan Measles, he is one of my favourite Artists. I have trimmed this one with lace edged velvet trim and I am wearing a Colette Jasmine blouse this time in cream georgette fabric.

tracy-roger-mooreDay 5 and 007 Roger Moore is taking me hostage! Today’s Barcelona skirt is slightly different as I did not line this one, and I have added a waistband. The fabric  is from a Moda range called Honky Tonk. The top is a Cake Pattern, the Cabarita knit top, in red jersey.

tracy-stevemcqueenDay 6 and I am racing with Steve McQueen today in another Barcelona skirt, this one is made using an Amy Butler fabric! Its some baby cord from her Soul Blossoms range called English Garden, it is velvety soft! The blouse is a Sewaholic Belcarra.

tracy-bowie

Final day and I am rocking with David Bowie in my Ukulele Skirt! This is a Barcelona hack, I used the top of the skirt pattern and then added a drop waist box pleat skirt. And a repeat wearing of my Turquoise jersey, Sewaholic Renfrew. I even have a matching strap on my Uke, unfortunately I can’t play it at the moment!

It has taken me 2 days to type out this post, using one finger on my left hand! Can’t wait to get the plaster off and actually start sewing again!

Sewing in the summer

I have been a bit quiet on the blogging front but I have still been sewing away although I do find it hard to spend time in the house at my sewing machine when the sun is shining. I really like to sit in the sun and read a good book in the summer, I love to look at sewing books and plan what I am going make, I always end up with an enormous list.

At the beginning of the month it was my gorgeous daughters birthday and I wanted to make her a summery dress the Sewaholic Saltspring is perfect!

Sewaholic Saltspring dressDoesn’t she looks lovely in it! I used some of our delicate and floaty voile fabric Field Study Sinister Swarm, a strange name for such beautiful fabric!

We now have the new patterns from Tilly and the Buttons

I made myself a Miette skirt using some of the Amy Butler Soul Blossoms Cord

tracy-mieteIts a wrap-around skirt, so very easy to make, no zips or buttons! The patterns are lovely and the instructions are clear and easy to follow.

We have also had the mens sewing patterns from Thread Theory a very exciting addition to our range, I want to have a go at making the Comox trunks.

thread-theory-comox-trunks-sewing-pattern-1894-p[ekm]230x288[ekm]I love this picture from their blog, I don’t think I will get any of the boys in my family to model in their underwear for me!

#1 Project Per Week

This weeks project is a birthday present for one of my best friends whose birthday was yesterday. Its a Sewaholic Gabriola Skirt.

Gabriola SkirtThe fabric is a beatiful Blackberry blossom print cotton lawn that is from our website so it drapes beautifully.

gabriola skirt patternBlackberry cotton lawnI have got several projects lined up for next week so there may be more than one, I am going to be pretty busy!

Sew-alongs and #1ppw

This week I decided to take part in not just one sewalong, but two! I joined in with the Sewaholic Belcarra Blouse sew-along and the Colette Mabel Skirt sew-along.

1402_Sewaholic_Belcarra_Envelope_frontmabel-300I have already made a couple of Belcarra blouses and I wanted to make this one a bit different so I used some of the fabulous new lace fabric that we have in stock to make some lacey sleeves on this black cotton lawn version.

tracymabelbelcarraThe Mabel skirt I made is the longer pencil skirt version and I used light weight cotton jersey knit in glamourous red. Both patterns are really easy to make and it only took me a couple of days to put together this gorgeous outfit!

I have also signed up for the 1 project per week sewing challenge that fellow blogger bernieandi has organised so this outfit is my week 1 for that too, ticks lots of boxes!

Me made May week 2

Well that week flew by! Here is a round up of what I have been wearing during #mmmay14

#mmm14 day 10On day 10 I wore a Colette Mabel skirt, on the pattern she says you can make it in an hour, its true! I knocked this one up that morning! And the top I am wearing is the Cake Cabarita riff which was also surprisingly easy to make, the fabrics are Grey jersey heavy weight knit and a gorgeous Red Cotton jersey that is T-shirt weight. I am living a daydream and partying with one of my heart throbs – John Travolta!

#mmm14 day 11I celebrated Conchita’s win with her on day 11 in one of my Sewaolic Renfrew tops, I am also wearing a Brigitte Scarf from Tilly’s new book ‘Love at first stitch’, if you haven’t seen this book yet, take a look, I love and want to make EVERYTHING!

#mmm14 day 12I fell in love with this Riley Blake fabric as soon as it came in to stock and it is perfect as a By Hand London Anna dress, its from the new Vintage Happy range, and hey! I’m on a mountain, how did that happen?

#mmm14 day 13I was back into work clothes on day 13 so my trusty Sewaholic Thurlows and a Colette Violet blouse in ivory georgette, this is available to buy as a complete kit from the website. Doing a spot of light reading during my lunch break with my work mates!

#mmm14 day 14Day 14 and I parachuted back in wearing my Colette Mabel skirt and Gorgeous gingham Sewaholic Belcarra blouse.

#mmm14 day 15Day 15 brought glorious sunshine to Wales so I was happy to find myself in an icecream van today, I am wearing a Colette Jasmine Blouse which is made using a gorgeous black spotty crepe fabric, again this is available as a complete kit on the website.

#mmm14 day 16Day 15 was a spotty theme so I wore my glam By Hand Charlotte pencil skirt, I love this skirt as the fabric is stretchy so it is really comfortable, yet glamourous. Its a cotton mix fabric with a broderie anglaise style detail and red spots, lush! My top is the Cake Cabarita riff. And I am back ot top of the World again, only this time I have made it to the moon!!

#mmmay14 Day 17Well it’s Saturday so I get to lounge around in my Sewaholic Tofino trousers, its also cup final day so I have ended up in Wembley! The Tofino’s are very comfy and I have used some of the Moda Honky Tonk fabric to make these, I am also wearing another Belcarra blouse!

honky-tonk-chili-pepper-cowboy-fabric-1506-p[ekm]288x288[ekm]Here’s a close up of the Honky Tonk fabric as you can’t quite make it out in the photo.
