I will make a winter coat this year, I will. Honest. Well maybe….

Every year about this time, I think, ‘right then, lets make a nice warm coat’.

Then I dawdle and procrastinate, think well… maybe next week, and before I know it, it’s Spring and I can get on with making those nice fun summer dresses again.

This year, though, it’s going to be different. It’s definitely going to happen.

Firstly I have to choose who I am making this for. My husband is a good bet, he is forgiving and frankly would wear anything. I’ve got a couple of patterns to choose from, the good solid Colette Albion or the trendy Thread Theory Peacoat. We’ve got this nice soft Polyester Heavy Felt that would be up for the job. Mmmm but what about the lining…..

Then again, I quite fancy a girlie version of the Albion too or maybe The Grainline Cascade Duffle Coat. We have some nice Boucle fabric, that would be good for the Colette Anise Jacket, or a Victoria Blazer or one of those nice Morris Blazers from Grainline Patterns.

Some Gabachino Fabric might be perfect for a slightly more lightweight Sewaholic Robson Coat

Mind you, I’ve always fancied a Denim version of the Serendipity Jordan Jacket, that would be great for the Spring,

There you go, I’m procrastinating again!

Klona Cotton Fabrics

We’ve just added 8 Klona Cottons to the shop, with 8 more to come. This is a fabulous budget plain with no compromise on quality, 100% cotton suitable for craft, dress and furnishing.

klona-cottons
Klona Cotton Fabric is a high quality cotton that is wider than usual quilting and patchwork cottons which makes it great value for money! Available in a huge range of plain shades it has a lovely depth of colour and is a popular choice for patchwork, quilting and dressmaking. It is a medium weight fabric. It is non-stretch, machine washable, wears well and is easy to sew and care for. Although traditionally a patchwork and quilting fabric, Klona cotton is nowadays used as much for dressmaking as it is patchwork! It is great for shorts, shirts, skirts, dresses, tops, trousers and more!

Me Made May days 4 & 5

Yesterday was a beautiful day, I sat in the garden for most of it, I wore a lovely new Sewaholic Renfrew top that I had spent most of Saturday morning making, I used some of the gorgeous new Jersey fabric that we have on the website at the moment, I am so pleased with the way it turned out, I think I will make a stripey one next. Mr LLM couldn’t resist photo-shopping me into what looks like a scene from frozen! (In my flip-flops!)

MeMadeMay day 4The skirt is another Amy Butler Barcelona that I blogged about a few weeks ago, its made from one of my favourite fabrics by Anna Marie Horner called Raindrops.

Today I have been to work, so its a bit black and white as that is what I am required to wear. Another couple of Sewaholic patterns, this time the Thurlow trousers, which are so comfortable! The pattern is really easy to follow and for the tricky bits (like the back pockets) there are really useful pictures to follow on the Sewaholic blog, what I really like about them is the way they are constructed to fit so well! If this warm weather keeps up I shall definitely be making some Thurlow shorts!

Me Made May day 5The top is also by Sewaholic, its the new Belcarra blouse, it is selling so well that we ran out of them today! but don’t worry new stock will be with us shortly! The fabric for the blouse is an embroidered and embellished white cotton lawn, it has flowers and tiny sequins on it. I am also wearing a Me Made necklace, a scrabble letter T on a chain!

Barcelona Skirt

This is probably the easiest skirt I have ever made, it’s the Amy Butler Barcelona skirt, its a gorgeous A-line skirt, fully lined and a beautifully concealed zip.

Barcelona SkirtThe fabric I used is a Free Spirt fabric by Anna Maria Horner from her Field Study range, it is called Raindrops Pop Candy isn’t that a great name?

I used some Turquoise lining fabric and then I trimmed the bottom with some Teal velvet ribbon.

amy-butler-barcelona-skirt-sewing-pattern-1520-p[ekm]195x288[ekm]This is a very easy pattern to follow and I would recommend it for beginners.

Happy sewing!

Jasmine blouse

It’s my Mum’s birthday tomorrow and I have just finished her present, Its a Jasmine blouse from Colette, it is so easy to make.

Jasmine blouse colette sewing patternIt is a pull over the head style so there are no zips or buttons and the pattern has really clear, simple instructions.

1018-jasmine-[2]-122-pThis one is made from a lovely mushroom colour georgette fabric which is very fine, quite slippery to work with but the finish is lovely, really drapey

mushroom-georgette-497-pI might make myself one next in this lovely navy blue, spotty crepe fabricwhich also hangs really nicely and has a retro look about it.
