Just sewing away obsessively…….

I love sharing my latest makes, but I am a bit of a sewing obsessive, as soon as I finish something I start something new! I am constantly thinking about what I am going to make next! So let me show you what I have been making …………

These are the Sew me something Portia trousers, the fabric is a super soft cotton/linen blend that drapes beautifully. I struggled a bit with the zip on these only to realise that I hadn’t cut out enough facings! Great views of Barrybados in the background! I am also wearing my me made Colette Anise jacket and a huge piece of Liberty silk as a scarf!!

Another recent make is my Deer and Doe Myosotis dress, very comfortable, a great dress for big lunches! I would probably go down a size if I make it again as it is very generous. The fabric is a lush cotton lawn by Lady McElroy available here

I have recently finished a couple of Tilly & the Buttons Cleo pinafores, this one is mine. I made it slightly longer and put the split at the back. I regretted not inserting pockets, although I have been persuaded that front patch pockets will work so watch this space. The denim has a slight stretch so it is really comfortable. I also made a Cleo for my sister, I will try & get a photo of us together in them!

I am also doing a bit of mending after obsessively looking at Japanese mending techniques on Pinterest 😂 does anyone else hate throwing things away! I just love this Sashiko technique!

Anyway, I have got lots of sewing to be getting on with (Tamarack jacket) so I’m off to get on with it!

Me made May catch up

It’s almost May and another Me-Made-May is fast approaching so I thought I would re-post my first ever Me-Made-May! I always have so much fun doing it and can’t wait for this May so that I can do it all again, any suggestions for my theme this year? Last year it was Where am I, there wasn’t much of a theme to the first one, it just evolved!

Me-Made-May 2014

MeMadeMay 2014 day 18Although it says day 19 on this image it was in fact only day 18, I got a bit confused! Being on a pirate ship probably didn’t help! I am wearing a Colette Ceylon Dress that I made a few years ago, #mmm2014 has really encouraged me to wear a lot of outfits that have been sitting in the back of my wardrobe!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 19So this is actually day 19 and I look as if I am having a great time on the waltzers but actually fair ground rides absolutely terrify me! I am wearing a Simple Sew A-line skirt which is exactly that – a very simple sew and the pattern for £7.50 is also a very good price, the fabric is from the Moda Honky Tonk range which I love! My Blouse is the Sewaholic Belcarra that I have mentioned in previous posts.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 20Party on! My gorgeous Mortmain dress that I am loving at the moment, I make dresses all the time and then hardly wear them so it’s great to get the opportunity to show them off at the moment and I must continue to wear them when #mmm2014 finishes!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 21On day 21 I did actually go and see Joe Brown in concert, he was GREAT and those of you who know me will realise that I am actually playing that ukulele (although not actually with Joe!) as it is something I like to do when I am not sewing! This By Hand London Anna dress has got to be my favourite make of the month, I love it!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 22This has got to be one of my favorite photo’s of the month, I didn’ know what animal it was going to be Mr LLM just said today you are going to the zoo! The dress is a self drafted jersy knit using some of the funky jersey fabric we have in stock at the moment and the leggings are Cake Espresso’s.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 23I am really enjoying sewing with knit fabrics at the moment, I treated myself to a copy of the new Colette book ‘Sewing with knits’ and it has given me the confidence to try lots of knit patterns, including this Colette Moneta dress, if you have got a serger you can make this really quickly! More lush jersey fabric!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 24It was a gorgeous day today so I am wearing shorts, these are just a pair of cut-off jeans but I really want to make some Thurlow shorts for the summer, and the top is my stripey Sewaholic Renfrew, another quick and easy jersey make.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 25pgWe went away for the week end so I appear to be camping in a tiny tent here, but actually we stayed in a caravan, it was pretty cold in the evenings though so I was really gratefull for my Sewaholic Tofino trousers and hand knitted Rowan wool bobble hat and jumper!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 26I feel like Alice in Wonderland in this shot! Rocking my A-Line skirt as mentioned earlier and yet another jersey top, this time a Cake Cabrita.

MeMadeMay 2014 day 27On day 27 I was serving pints for Manet, enormous pints! I love this gingham Belcarra blouse!

MeMadeMay 2014 day 28Somehow I ended up in the fridge today! Its a good job that I have got a hand knitted hat on to keep my head warm! I am also wearing my Black Sewaholic Thurlow trousers and a Colette Jasmine blouse, this is one of the blouse’s that is available to buy as a kit from the website.

Well thats me all up to date, only a few more days to go, it’s been great fun!

Ginger jeans & Lots of Linden sweatshirts

About this time last year I made my first pair of Ginger Jeans, you can see that post here. So I decided I needed a new pair in a slightly darker denim, it took me a lot longer this time but that is because I have been busy that I am struggling to find the time to sew. These Jeans were cut out in January, the pockets were done in February and I managed to finish them in March and now I am finally blogging about them!img_3795

img_3785In between making the jeans however I have managed to knock out a few Grainline Linden Sweatshirts this has got to be the easiest pattern ever! I made 2 in one evening! The one that I am wearing above and then a quick black & grey one, it’s also a great way to use up any scraps, the black and grey one is made from left over fabric that I had in my stash!

img_4029

I used my trusty overlocker to make these tops and also my coverstitch machine that I was still struggling with initially, I am pleased to say that now that I have a clear foot on it and can therefore see what I am doing, I am getting much better results.

I made a third Linden using some of the gorgeous new flowery jersey we have just had in to the shop combined with some black.

If you haven’t had a go at making a pair of jeans yet I would strongly recommend you give it a go, they are not as hard as you think and there are so many helpful tutorials online that cover everything from inserting the fly zip to getting a good fit that you can’t really go wrong.

Summer bag making

When I first started sewing I made a lot of bags, so many that I vowed never to go there again! However I have just discovered these fantastic ready to use leather and leather look bag handles! The first bag I made using them was a bithday present for a friend, I used Amy Butler fabric and just improvised a box shape bag with plenty of pockets as she was about to go on holiday and I thought it would be great for the beach.

butler-bag1-1

This inspired me to make a couple more, one for myself and one for my sister in law for her birthday (which was in May!)

bags4

I had seen some bags with a band of contrasting colour and a pleat at the top in a magazine, so I improvised again and this is what I came up with. The one at the front is mine and is made from Vintage by Hemmingway fabric and has black leather handles, slightly different to the first ones I used and a bit trickier to sew on.

bag2

For my Sister in Laws bag I used a Moda fabric called Simply Style, also she is a vegan so the handle on her bag is not leather. By the way if you see my Sister in Law don’t tell her about the bag because I haven’t seen her yet to give it to her!

I have been a bit lazy with my blog posts recently, its not because I haven’t been making anything, I have in fact got lots to post about I have just been too busy sewing and watching the sewing Bee!

Wren!

The new Colette sewing pattern is here! Wren is gorgeous! Its easy to make and extremely flattering.

wren-colette-sewing-pattern-[5]-2687-p

I made myself version two from some of our lovely striped jersey that has a lovely silky feel to it and hangs beautifully.

I think the Wren pattern is fun to wear and also quick and easy to make, I can see myself making more of these, particularly as we have just bought in a few Liberty Jersey fabrics!

Summer sewing

Well I thought it was about time that I posted about some of the things I have been making this summer. Firstly for my gorgeous daughters birthday I made her a Gather Buchanan dressing gown using this beautiful Kaffe Fasset fabric called Big Blooms.

And I had to make her a matching toilet bag!

The other fabric range that is excellent for summer sewing is the Moda Regent Street Lawn, it is light weight and floaty, perfect for summer tops like the Grainline Scout Tee and my favourite from the Sewing Bee book, the Drape top.

We love the Regent Street Lawn fabric so much that we have decided to make up some Trixie Lixie Knicker kits in them.

That’s just a few of the things I have been making this summer, there is more to come!

Follow me on instagram @beingtrixielixie for more pictures of what I have been making.

New Fabric ranges

We have had some new fabric ranges delivered that are really lovely! The first one is called Hope Chest by Penny Rose Fabrics, this is how they describe them on their website:

The bright and colorful designs of the 1930’s era are one of the most popular genres of quilting fabrics. The color, diversity of design, and size allows for many uses including quilting, home decor and garments.

During the Great Depression of the 1930’s there was a great revival of Quilting. The hard times brought a strong desire for women to socialize. Quilting became a popular way for women to fulfill their desire to be creative while still making something practical for her family. To keep expenses to a minimum, women would find quilting materials from many different sources such as sewing scraps, out-grown clothing and feed sacks.

Enjoy these happy bright colors and designs that bring a little remembrance of an era that looked forward to better times.

Hope Chest fabric rangeAnother luscious new range that we now have in stock is the new Regents Lawns by Moda Fabrics. Gorgeously light weight, these would make lovely knickers and camisole tops, I am going to be adding them to our current knicker kits after Christmas and I am working on a Camisole pattern to also launch as a kit in January.

We also have the jelly rolls and charm packs in this range.

Dahlia Dress

My wrist is still painful and I am having to wear a splint and see a hand therapist, apparently scaphoid injuries take a long time to heal! Anyway I can sew as long as I don’t spend hours at it and rest my hand every couple of hours, which is frustrating but I think my sewing is benefiting from the slower, less rushed approach. So I started this Dahlia dress as soon as we received the patterns from Colette, but I didn’t get it finished until a week later.Colette Dahlia dressThe pattern is easy to follow, clear instructions as always and some useful blog links for the harder bits such as gathering and attaching bias binding. I used some of our gorgeous China blue Linen fabric that feels gorgeous and has a really nice drape to it. I can see myself using this pattern again and again although I think I will make a smaller size next time as the fit is quite generous.

tracy-dahliaIn the colder weather I like to accessorize with tights and boots, here is one of my #sewingselfies

#sewingselfie Dahlia dressWe sold out of this pattern straight away so I imagine there are going to be a lot of gorgeous Dahlia’s to look at in the next week or so, I can’t wait to see some!
